What kind of place is Euniseongji?

Euniseongji is a very important site in the history of Catholicism in Korea, located at 182 Euni-ro, Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is especially closely connected to Father Andrew Kim Dae-geon, the first Catholic priest in Korea, making it a special place where you can experience and learn about history and culture firsthand beyond its religious significance.

The story and special features of Euniseongji

• The name "Euni" means "hidden village," referring to a place where Catholics once took refuge from persecution and formed a faith community.
• This is where Father Kim Dae-geon was baptized in 1836 and selected as a seminarian. After studying in Macau and being ordained in 1845, he returned to Joseon and offered his first pastoral ministry and final Mass here.
• Euniseongji is also home to Gim Gahang Cathedral, which was rebuilt using major structural materials moved from the original church in Shanghai, China, after it was demolished, giving the site a meaningful connection to world history as well.

• Free parking available inside the church grounds, open from 9 AM to 5 PM
• Mass is held every day at 11 AM (except Mondays)
• If using public transportation, take Bus 84-1, though it may be somewhat inconvenient
• Slippers, sleeveless tops, outside food, and pets are restricted
• Quiet viewing is recommended throughout the site
