Where is Jangsa Landing Operation Victory Memorial Hall?

Jangsa Landing Operation Victory Memorial Hall is located at 3560 Donghae-daero, Namjeong-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is the first and only special exhibition hall in Korea built on the sea, and it opened in June 2020 to honor the noble sacrifice and courage of the student soldiers who took part in the Jangsa Landing Operation during the Korean War.

Why is the Jangsa Landing Operation important?

In September 1950, the Jangsa Landing Operation was carried out to support the success of the Incheon Landing Operation. The Independent 1st Guerrilla Battalion, made up mostly of students, actually boarded a ship called Munsan and carried out a mission to divert the attention of North Korean forces and cut off supply routes. This operation played an important role in turning the tide of the war, but many student soldiers lost their lives.

What you can experience at the memorial hall

• Your visit begins in a unique building built over the sea and shaped like a ship, modeled after the Munsan.
• The memorial hall has a total of 5 floors.

Floor guide and key experiences

1. 1st floor
   • You will find a variety of photos and videos covering the background of the Jangsa Landing Operation, the formation of the unit, and the deployment process.
   • Displays recreating the time period, including actual military uniforms and school bags used by student soldiers, are especially memorable.
2. 2nd floor
   • The landing operation is vividly presented through sculptures and various media.
3. 3rd floor
   • There is a lounge area where you can rest and enjoy a drink.
4. 4th floor
   • Hands-on activities are available, including trying on student soldier uniforms and taking commemorative photos, so children can imagine themselves as figures from history.
5. 5th floor
   • From the deck, you can take in sweeping views of the sea and Jangsa Beach, and the scenery is especially beautiful on clear days.

• At the entrance and outside the building, you can also naturally explore sculptures showing the student soldiers landing, a memorial tower for veterans, and a roster of the student soldiers.

Visitor information

• Hours: Closed every Monday, Tuesday to Sunday 09:00 to 18:00 during summer season, 09:00 to 17:00 during winter season, November to February
• Admission: Adults 3,000 won, middle and high school students and soldiers 2,000 won, elementary school students 1,000 won
• Preschool children receive free admission. Residents of Yeongdeok-gun or holders of a Multichild Love Card with a third child or more can receive a 50% discount.

Visit tips

• Because this is a place with deep historical meaning, it is a great opportunity to naturally talk with your child about war, peace, and courage.
• The memorial hall has a large parking lot, and the road is unpaved. The beach scenery about 3 minutes away on foot is also excellent, making it easy to enjoy a walk and a relaxing break.
