What is Usuyeong National Tourist Site?

Usuyeong National Tourist Site is a representative family travel destination in Munae-myeon, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, where history, hands-on activities, and nature come together. It was created to commemorate the victory of the Battle of Myeongnyang, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin defeated 133 enemy ships with just 13 vessels. It is a special place where you and your child can vividly experience the wisdom and courage of the Joseon navy.

1. Battle of Myeongnyang Naval History Memorial Exhibition Hall

   • You can learn about the history of the Battle of Myeongnyang and Admiral Yi Sun-sin's achievements through a variety of exhibits and videos.
   • There are plenty of hands-on learning elements, including a model turtle ship, scenes from the naval battle, and displays of Joseon naval weapons and daily life.

2. Myeongnyang Battle Monument and observatory

   • A 17 m tall monument commemorating the naval victory stands here.
   • From the observatory, you can take in a sweeping view of Jindo Bridge and the powerful currents of Uldolmok, giving your family a chance to experience the wonder of nature as well.

3. Uldolmok Skywalk

   • On the transparent glass skywalk, you can look straight down and enjoy the thrilling experience of seeing the currents of the Uldolmok Strait up close.

4. Usuyeong Cable Car

   • Ride the cable car connecting Haenam and Jindo and cross above the sea while enjoying panoramic views of the Myeongnyang Strait and the surrounding scenery.

5. Historical sculptures and experience spaces

   • Throughout the park, you will find sculptures recreating the battles of righteous armies and naval forces during the Imjin War, so your child can stroll through and feel immersed in history.
   • A model of a panokseon, a traditional warship, is also on display for a closer look.

Helpful tips for visitors

• Inside the Myeongnyang Naval Battle History Exhibition Hall, there are quite a few activities, from a 4D video to exploring the inside of a panokseon.
• If you are visiting with a preschooler, focusing on the second-floor exhibition hall can be a good option. There are many videos and hands-on activities, so your kids can have a great time.
• Some paths and stairs may feel a little inconvenient when moving around with a stroller.
• The 4D video feels very lifelike, with splashing water that makes it feel as if you are really on a boat, and the outdoor exhibition area is impressive as well. Kids can run around while looking at Jindo Bridge and Uldolmok near the turtle ship-shaped structure.
• The strong currents of the Myeongnyang Strait, Uldolmok, are usually most dynamic around 2 PM to 4 PM, so visiting during that time can make the experience even more vivid.
