What makes this place special

• Located in Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Hanguk Deungjan Museum is the only specialized lighting exhibition space in Korea focused on traditional Korean oil lamps.
• It began in Suwon in 1969 as the Antique Lighting Exhibition Hall and officially opened in its current Yongin location in 1997. It is a place with deep history that began with the collection of founder Dr. Kim Dong-hwi.
• On display are a wide variety of lighting tools used by our ancestors before electricity, including about 300 lamps as well as folk items, farming tools, and genre paintings that welcome visitors.

Exhibits and hands-on experiences

• In the first-floor exhibition hall, under the theme "Lamps in Everyday Life," you will find lamps used by ancestors in spaces such as rooms, kitchens, and sarangbangs, along with folk items from that time, displayed like real living environments so you can vividly experience life in the past.
• On the second floor, you can explore exhibits under the themes "Lamps in History" and "Lamps in Beauty," featuring lamps by period, material, and purpose, along with special exhibitions.
• With recreated hanok rooms showing which lighting fixtures were used in each space, it is easy to understand how they were used, and digital screen explanations are also provided so children can enjoy the visit with interest.

Programs

• A variety of hands-on activities and educational programs are regularly offered, including lamp making, candle making, and ceramic lamp making that you can enjoy with your child.
• In addition to family and children's activities, there are also special exhibitions, local artist exhibitions, and seasonal events, so you may find something new each time you visit.

Exterior and facilities

• The museum catches your eye with its distinctive exterior inspired by the Gongsimdon watchtower of Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon.
• The building has 1 basement level and 3 above-ground floors. The 1st and 2nd floors are exhibition spaces, the 3rd floor is a multipurpose space for concerts and seminars, and the basement is used for education rooms and a lounge area.
• The outdoor exhibition area of about 2,600 to 3,000 square meters features a pond, a pavilion, jangseung totem poles, sotdae poles, and various stone works, making it a lovely place for a walk as well.

Tips for your visit

• Across from the museum is the tomb of Poeun Jeong Mong-ju, which is nice to visit together, and nearby you will also find family outing spots such as Gyeonggi Children's Museum, Everland, and Korean Folk Village.
• There is a large parking lot, so parking is easy.
• Since a variety of hands-on activities and exhibitions are held throughout the year, checking the schedule and programs on Naver can help you make the most of your visit.
• Outside food is restricted, and all spaces are non-smoking.
• Yongin residents can receive a discount.
