What kind of place is Gauido?

• Gauido is a small island located in the middle of Gangjin Bay in Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, and it is the only inhabited island among the 8 islands in Gangjin Bay.
• The island's name means "a cow's yoke," and it was given this name because the island's shape resembles a cow wearing a yoke.
• Surrounded by the sea on all sides and blessed with beautiful scenery, it is a wonderful destination for families to walk and enjoy activities together.

Main things to enjoy and route guide

1. Suspension bridge experience

   • Gauido is connected to the mainland by two pedestrian bridges.
   • On the east, the "Cheongja Bridge" (about 438 m) connects to Jeodu Dock in Doam-myeon, and on the west, the "Dasan Bridge" (about 716 m) connects to Mangho Dock in Doam-myeon.
   • Both bridges are fun to walk across and offer wide-open sea views, making them a special experience for your kids.

2. Walking the Hamkkehae-gil Coastal Ecological Trail

   • The circular trail around the island is about 2.5 km long and takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.
   • With a mix of flat paths and gentle uphill sections, it is manageable even with children who can walk without a stroller.
   • Along the way, you can enjoy a variety of coastal scenery and dense forest views.

3. Cheongja Tower and zip track

   • At the top of the island stands "Cheongja Tower," designed in the shape of celadon, with a height of 25 m.
   • The zip track starting from the tower can become a unique memory for older kids who love adventure.

4. Monorail ride

   • There is a monorail that helps families get around the island more easily if walking feels difficult.
   • With sweeping views of the sea and forest, it is also popular with children.

5. Fishing park and marine leisure

   • At the multi-purpose fishing park built along the gentle coastline, you can enjoy a simple fishing experience.
   • In summer, you can also enjoy various marine leisure activities such as jet boats.

Facilities and visitor information

• Restrooms: Public restrooms are available at two locations, near the entrances to Cheongja Bridge and Dasan Bridge, on the Jeodu and Mangho sides.
• Parking: Spacious parking areas are available at the entrances to both bridges, making it convenient if you are arriving by car.
• Meals: There are restaurants and cafes on the island, and stingray-shaped bread is sold there as well. If you bring a packed lunch, you can enjoy a more relaxed picnic.
• Pensions: There are also pensions around the island for families who need accommodation.

Recommended points and things to keep in mind

• Cars cannot enter the island, so you must cross the bridge on foot.
• Please note that some sections are difficult or restricted for stroller use.
• The long sea breeze and the forest shade are especially charming in each season, so weather-appropriate clothing is recommended.
• If you are visiting with children, it can be a good idea to plan your route around key highlights such as the bridges, monorail, and Cheongja Tower instead of completing the full circular trail.
