The special history of Nanpo Historic House

• Nanpo Historic House is a historic traditional home built in 1546, the first year of King Myeongjong of Joseon, by Teacher Nanpo Choi Cheol-gyeon, who served as a provincial official in Jeolla during the Imjin War.
• Records say it did not burn down even during the Imjin War, making it a precious cultural heritage site that has endured for centuries, and it was designated Gyeongsangbuk-do Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 80 in 1975.
• Nanpo Historic House is also said to have been built on a site with excellent feng shui, and it was meaningful enough to be recognized as an auspicious site even by Japanese folklorists during the Japanese colonial period.

The beauty of living traditional architecture

• Along with its wide courtyard, the house has the typical layout of an upper-class home from the Joseon era.
• The main quarters, the center of the home, are L-shaped and connect a kitchen, main room, wooden hall, small room, and maru room.
• In particular, the roof of the main quarters combines two traditional roof styles, showing the distinctive architectural style of the Gyeongbuk region.
• There were also men's quarters, inner men's quarters, storage quarters, a mill room, and a shrine, though only some parts remain today.
• The shrine, where rituals for the family's ancestors were held, is located behind the house.

• There are a lot of mosquitoes, so please bring insect repellent, and since the sun can be strong, sunscreen is recommended.
• There is also Jain Gyejeong Forest nearby, so it could be nice to visit together.
• Flowers such as trumpet creeper are beautiful, and many spots are great for photos, so it is recommended to dress your child in a nice outfit.
• There is no dedicated parking lot, but you can park in front of the historic house.
