What is Nangye Gugak Museum?

• Nangye Gugak Museum is located at 9 Gukak-ro, Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. It is a special place where you can explore the life and achievements of Master Nangye Park Yeon, one of Korea's three great musicians, along with the history and beauty of Korean traditional music through a variety of hands-on experiences.
• Opened on September 23, 2000, this museum is one of Yeongdong's signature attractions, known as the home of gugak, and the only museum in Korea dedicated exclusively to gugak exhibitions and experiences.

Main exhibition and experience spaces

• This two-story space includes a variety of exhibition halls and hands-on rooms.
  1. Nangye Hall: You can see a bust of Master Nangye Park Yeon, learn about his life and achievements, his relationship with King Sejong, and explore stories related to gugak and his musical legacy through videos and archival materials.
  2. Gugak Hall: You can view string instruments such as the gayageum, haegeum, and bipa; wind instruments such as the daegeum and nabal; percussion instruments such as the jing, buk, and pyeonjong; as well as a wide range of traditional music costumes. With more than 80 traditional Korean instruments on display, along with folk instruments from around the world, you can compare instruments from different countries as you look around.
  3. Video Room: You can learn about gugak, the life of Master Nangye Park Yeon, and the history and significance of traditional Korean music in an easy and engaging way through videos.
  4. Experience Room: You can touch and try playing around 90 traditional Korean instruments, including the gayageum, geomungo, haegeum, danso, janggo, and buk. You can also watch performances by the Nangye Traditional Music Ensemble on a project TV while trying the instruments yourself.

Visitor tips

• Admission is 2,000 won for adults and 1,500 won for others, with free entry for children under 6 and seniors aged 65 and older.
• Some experiences require a separate fee. For the museum + traditional music performance experience (1 activity) package, admission is 4,500 won for adults, 4,000 won for others, and 3,000 won for Yeongdong residents.
• Every October, the Nangye Gugak Festival is held with special performances and a variety of events, so visiting during the festival can make your experience even richer.
• Near Nangye Gugak Museum, you can also visit the traditional instrument-making village, the gugak experience center, and the Yeongdong Wine Promotion Center, making it easy to plan a combined visit.
