What is Sochang Experience Center?

Sochang Experience Center is a special place in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, where you can explore the history and culture of sochang, a traditional local textile, through all five senses. It reopened in 2018 after beautifully remodeling a hanok built in 1938 and a former dyeing factory site called Pyeonghwa Textile Site. In the calm atmosphere of a traditional hanok, you can learn about sochang, which has long been closely connected to everyday Korean life, and enjoy meaningful hands-on activities with your kids.

Main experience programs

1. Making a sochang handkerchief stamp craft

   • You can create your own handkerchief using stamps shaped like Ganghwado specialties such as turnips, ginseng, and grapes on a prepared sochang handkerchief.
   • This activity is free with a reservation.
   • It is a popular program that children, families, and adults can all enjoy.

2. Sochang sewing experience

   • You can sew and make various sochang items yourself, including handkerchiefs, pillow covers, and cushion covers.
   • Some sewing programs require a fee.

3. Weaving demonstration

   • You can watch real sochang fabric being woven up close.

4. Tea ceremony experience

   • You can experience traditional tea culture and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of a tea room paired with sochang.

5. Hanbok experience

   • Hanbok in various colors is available for both children and adults, so you can choose your favorite outfit and take memorable photos.

• The handkerchief making activity is popular, so booking in advance is helpful.
• The entire center does not operate during the lunch break from 12:00 to 13:00, so please check the time before visiting.
• On weekends and during school vacation seasons, experience programs may be more crowded.
• There is hanok style interior design, an outdoor deck, and a rooftop, so you can relax while looking around.
• The exhibition area and activity area are separated, making it comfortable for both kids and adults.
• The restroom in the souvenir exhibition building is the cleanest.
• Pets are not allowed.
• The dedicated parking lot is free but very small, so it is best to use nearby alleys or a nearby parking lot.
