Seongbuk Seonjam Museum is located at 96 Seongbuk-ro, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and is a special space where you can explore silkworms, silk, and our traditional clothing culture at a glance. It is especially popular for family outings because there are a variety of exhibits and programs where children can see, feel, and experience things firsthand.

Main features and exhibits

• The museum researches, preserves, and exhibits artifacts related to traditional clothing culture, including the Joseon-era state ritual Seonjamje, silkworms, silk, weaving, and embroidery.
• The museum consists of 3 exhibition areas, with 1 basement level and 3 above-ground floors, so you can enjoy a range of permanent and special exhibitions from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor.
• You can vividly experience important historical rites and their procedures, such as Chinjamrye, in which the queen personally took part, and Seonjamje, in which the king sent officials to perform rituals, through models, 3D videos, and artifacts.
• There is an open storage area where you can directly see how the museum manages its collection, something you would not usually get to see.

Hands-on programs for children

• Traditional craft and occupation experience programs are offered, including silkworm raising, thread spinning, and silk making, along with customized children's programs and humanities lectures.
• A variety of seasonal special exhibitions and themed exhibitions are held, so each visit can offer something new.

Visitor information

• Location: 96 Seongbuk-ro, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul
• Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00
• Closed: Every Monday, January 1, Lunar New Year holiday period, and Chuseok holiday period. If Monday is a public holiday, the museum is closed the following day.
• Admission:
  • Adults: 1,000 won
  • Teenagers ages 13 to 18: 500 won
  • Children ages 7 to 12: 300 won
  • Ages 6 and under, and ages 65 and over: Free
• Seongbuk-gu residents with ID, as well as local elementary, middle, and high school students, receive a 50% discount on admission.
• Parking: Only 2 vehicles can park at the museum, so public transportation is recommended because parking space is very limited.
• Public transportation:
  • About a 10-minute walk from Exit 6 of Hansung University Station on Subway Line 4
  • Bus 1111 or 2112, get off at Seongbuk Elementary School and Seongbuk Seonjam Museum stop

Facilities and visitor tips

• The museum rooftop features a Sky Garden where you can enjoy views of central Seoul and Seongbuk-dong.
• About 100 m from the museum, there is the actual Seonjamdan site, so visiting it after the exhibition can make your experience even more meaningful.
• The museum exterior has a distinctive modern design inspired by the texture of silk thread being drawn from a silkworm cocoon.
