About Jangchungdan Park

Jangchungdan Park is a park located at 257-10 Dongho-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. Close to Namsan, it is a place where you can enjoy clear natural scenery along with a deep sense of history. The park began with the "Jangchungdan," established in 1900 by Emperor Gojong to honor loyal subjects and patriots who gave their lives during the Eulmi Incident, the assassination of Empress Myeongseong. Nearby, you will also find Dongguk University, The Shilla Seoul, and Jangchung Arena.

History and significance

• Jangchungdan Park is originally a symbolic space that honors loyalty and carries on the national spirit. Throughout the park, memorials related to the independence movement, statues of historical figures such as Yu Gwan-sun, Yi Jun, and Samyeongdaesa, as well as the Jangchungdan Monument, Seoul Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 1, allow both adults and children to experience history education.
• During the Japanese colonial period, the park was transformed into a Japanese-style amusement area, but after liberation, various memorials to patriotic spirits were established to honor the history of the Korean people once again.

Main facilities and things to enjoy

• Plaza, tennis courts, playground, and fountain: With a variety of sports and play facilities, it is a nice place for kids to play while you enjoy a walk.
• Supyogyo Bridge from Cheonggyecheon: This stone bridge from the Joseon era was moved into the park, so you can stand on it with your kids and imagine old Seoul.
• Jangchungdan Memory Space Exhibition Hall: This permanent exhibition space displays materials on the history of Namsan and Jangchungdan, and it is open on weekdays only. You can see actual historical records, photographs, and a range of information, making it a meaningful educational visit.
• Exercise facilities: Acupressure walking paths and a gateball court are well equipped, and benches and rest areas throughout the park let you pause and enjoy nature.
• Namsomundongcheon Stream and an artificial waterfall: These add a refreshing feeling to the park.
• Large and clean restrooms: Convenient to use.

Visitor information

1. Hours

   • The park is open year-round and always accessible, so anyone can visit freely.
   • The exhibition hall, Memory Space, operates 10:00-17:00 on weekdays only, excluding lunch hours from 13:00-14:00, and is closed on weekends and public holidays.

2. Transportation

   • It is conveniently connected directly to Exit 6 of Dongguk Univ. Station on Subway Line 3.
   • Since there is no separate parking lot, public transportation is recommended.

3. Admission

   • Free admission, making it an easy place for families to visit without pressure.
