What is Sangnim Park?
Sangnim Park is a beautiful forest with a thousand years of history, located at 1073-1 Gyosan-ri, Hamyang-eup, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. During the reign of Queen Jinsung of Unified Silla, scholar Choe Chiwon built an embankment along the riverside and planted trees to protect the village from flooding, creating this man-made forest. It is considered one of the oldest forests in Korea. Today, it is specially protected as Natural Monument No. 154.
Main features of the park
- This spacious forest has walking paths stretching 1.6 km in length and 80 to 200 m in width, with a total area of about 21 ha.
- More than 20,000 broadleaf trees from around 120 species grow here, making it a lively nature learning spot for children.
- Each season brings its own beauty, from fresh greenery in spring and cool shade in summer to autumn foliage and snowy winter scenery.
