What is the Hantangang World Geopark Center?

Located at 55 Bidulginang-gil, Yeongbuk-myeon, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, the Hantangang World Geopark Center is Korea's first and only museum dedicated to geoparks. With the mysterious nature and history of the Hantangang River as its theme, it is a place where families and children can easily and enjoyably experience and learn about geology, history, ecology, and culture.

Highlights at a glance

• The Hantangang World Geopark Center opened in April 2019, and features exhibition and hands-on spaces centered on the formation process and geological characteristics of the Hantangang River, as well as the lives of the people who have lived in this region.
• You can explore the Hantangang River's unique landforms and beautiful natural scenery, including basalt cliffs, columnar joints, and waterfalls formed by volcanic eruptions around 54,000 to 120,000 years ago, through a variety of exhibitions and hands-on experiences.
• Inside the center, you will find a wide range of facilities, including exhibition halls, a digital experience hall, a children's playground, outdoor sculptures, an auditorium, multipurpose meeting rooms, a restaurant, a cafeteria, and a gift shop, making your visit comfortable and convenient.

Main exhibition and experience spaces

• Geology and Ecology Exhibition Hall
  From the story of the birth of the Hantangang River that began with lava eruptions to the history and culture around the river from the Paleolithic era to modern times, along with diverse vegetation and ecosystems, the exhibits are engaging and family-friendly.

• Digital Experience Hall
  You can enjoy immersive videos showing the changing seasons of the Hantangang River and the wonders of nature. There are many spaces where children can watch, listen, and interact directly, including experiential video exhibits that kids especially enjoy.

• Outdoor Children's Playground
  Equipped with various adventure facilities, this is a great place for your kids to run and play freely.

• Various hands-on programs

    These creative hands-on programs for children and families are offered on an ongoing basis.

• There are also free guided exhibition tours led by professional docents, allowing for a deeper and richer experience.
• You can pair your visit with nearby attractions such as Bidulginang Falls and Haneul Bridge, making it easy to enjoy a full day of family fun in nature.

Good to know before you visit

• Closed every Tuesday, so be sure to check the operating schedule before your visit.
• Through the "Weekend Experience Program" held on weekends, you can enjoy a cooking activity followed by making a basalt bracelet.
• Some programs require advance reservations, so it is a good idea to inquire ahead of time. Entry applications are accepted by email, and on-site registration may also be available if there are open spots.
• The museum has well-equipped facilities such as a restaurant, cafe, and gift shop, so meals and souvenir shopping are convenient.
