Overview

Located near Jongno 3-ga Station in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the Chunwondang Museum of Korean Medicine is a specialized exhibition space dedicated to Korean medicine, operated by Chunwondang, a Korean medicine clinic with a tradition of more than 180 years. From the Three Kingdoms period to the Joseon Dynasty and into modern and contemporary times, you can explore the long history and culture of Korean medicine in Korea at a glance, offering a special experience for both children and the whole family.

Museum features and exhibitions

• Opened in 2008, this is a cultural complex dedicated to Korean medicine with a systematic exhibition of its history.
• Around 4,500 artifacts are on display, including traditional medicine cabinets, decoction pots, needle cases, medicine grinders, meridian charts, and a variety of documents and tools.
• Permanent special exhibitions also showcase treasured items from Chunwondang, which has carried on Korean medicine for eight generations, as well as the flow of modern and contemporary Korean medicine.
• The artifacts have a simple and elegant beauty that makes the museum feel even more welcoming.

Hands-on programs for children

• A wide range of educational and hands-on programs is available for children from lower elementary grades to teenagers.
• Signature programs include making a traditional medicine box, trying a Korean medicine doctor career experience, and tracing meridian charts, with activity-based learning that lets your child see, hear, and touch things directly.
• A museum guided commentary program is also available, with easy explanations tailored to children.

• Hours: Monday to Friday 09:00 to 18:00, Saturday 09:00 to 13:00
• Closed: Every Sunday
• Admission: Adults 2,000 won; students under 19, seniors age 65 and older, and visitors with disabilities 1,000 won; preschool children free
• The museum is located on the 5th floor. Enter on the 1st floor and use the elevator.
• Please note that photography inside the museum may be restricted.
• Accessibility: The museum is easy to reach, about a 3-minute walk from Exit 5 of Jongno 3-ga Station.
