What kind of place is Woljeongsa?

Woljeongsa is one of Korea's representative ancient temples, located at the foot of Odaesan in Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon State. Founded in 643 during the 12th year of Queen Seondeok of Silla by the monk Jajang Yulsa, this temple has nearly 1,400 years of history. Surrounded by the dense forests of Odaesan and clear mountain valleys, it is a peaceful healing destination where the whole family can experience nature and traditional culture at the same time.

   • The about 1 km fir forest path from Woljeongsa Iljumun Gate to Geumganggyo Bridge is lined with more than 1,700 tall fir trees, making it a wonderful place to walk while enjoying the fresh air.
   • It is beautiful in every season, and the lush greenery of summer and snowy winter scenery especially help kids feel the wonder of nature.

   • Woljeongsa is home to several precious cultural heritage items, including the National Treasure Octagonal Nine-Story Stone Pagoda and the Treasure Seated Stone Bodhisattva.

Things to know before your visit

• There is no admission fee to enter the Woljeongsa parking lot. Although individual admission may appear on Naver's price listing, admission is free, and only parking fees are charged at the entrance depending on vehicle type.
• Strollers can be used from the parking lot all the way to Woljeongsa and the fir forest path.
• The Seongbo Museum also displays valuable Buddhist artifacts, so it is worth visiting together.
• Please observe temple etiquette and enjoy your visit quietly.
