What Makes Mukho Lighthouse Special

• Located on a hill along Haemaji-gil near Mukho Port in Donghae, Gangwon State, Mukho Lighthouse is one of the representative lighthouses on Korea's east coast, built in 1963. Standing prominently on a mountainside about 67 to 93 m above sea level, it offers fantastic views of the blue East Sea, Mukho Port, and even Dutasan and Cheongoksan at a glance.
• Mukho Lighthouse uses a prism lens developed with domestic technology to cast a strong beam once every 10 seconds, and it still helps guide ships safely along their route. Inside this round white reinforced concrete lighthouse, which is about 26 m tall, you'll find a spiral staircase, so you can enjoy sea views through the windows as you climb.
• Inside the lighthouse, there are displays about Korea's staffed lighthouses as well as drawings by children from Donghae, so the climb can naturally become an educational experience too.

Things to Enjoy and Nearby Scenery

• Climbing the spiral staircase is part of the fun, and when you reach the top, a wide-open ocean view unfolds before you. The structure brings you back around in a full circle, which kids often find fun, and seeing and learning about a lighthouse that shines over the sea makes it especially memorable.
• Around the lighthouse, there is a spacious small park, photo spots, and resting areas, making it a great place to take family photos with the sea in the background. In the evening, the LED lights turn on, creating a beautiful atmosphere at night as well.
• Below the lighthouse, Nongoldam-gil is a walking path lined with story murals created together by local residents and artists. Each small alley carries the charm of a seaside village and warm stories.
• On the first floor, there are concave and convex mirrors, so you can have fun taking photos with your kids.
• Near the lighthouse, you'll also find ocean-view cafes, Mukho Port with a variety of food to enjoy, and a fish market where you can try fresh sashimi, making it easy to spend a full day enjoying different experiences with your child.
