Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Coal Mine Culture Village

Gangwon State Coal Mining Culture Village

This is a unique museum where you and your child can vividly experience the scenery of a coal mining village in Yeongwol. It is not a large space, but the miners' daily lives and the look of the old village are recreated in a very realistic way, giving parents a sense of nostalgia and kids a chance to learn something new.

What makes it special?

• You can realistically explore the shopping streets and living spaces of a coal mining village from the 1960s and 1970s.
• Some exhibits include audio support, which can make the visit more engaging for your child.
• Exhibition activity sheets are available, so it is great for taking a closer look together with your child.

Things to enjoy with your child

• You can try old-fashioned games such as land-claiming games and rubber shoe throwing.
• The virtual experience hall also offers a 4D rider experience for an additional fee.
• A coal mine experience hall within a 10-minute walk is also nice to visit for free. However, it is dark inside and the passageways are narrow, so it is a good idea to explain that in advance if you have a young child.

Things to check before your visit

• Parking is available.
• There is no nursing room, diaper changing station, stroller rental, or baby seat.
• The stairs from the parking lot to the culture village are quite steep, so if you are using a stroller, it is better to take the road beside it.
• It is closed every Monday, and if Monday is a public holiday, it closes the following day instead.

"If you want to enjoy a special trip back in time with your child, this is a lovely place to stop by."
