Parenting Tips for Namyangju Hongyureung
- Hongneung and Yureung, the last royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty and the only Korean Empire imperial tombs, are located together here. It is a wonderful place to teach children about the lesser-known history of Korea's modern era from their textbooks.
- The tranquil forest walking trail winding through grand, densely wooded grounds has gentle slopes and is as easy to walk as flat ground, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll while holding young children's hands or pushing a stroller.
- Before exploring the outdoor tombs, visit the Hongyureung History and Culture Center first near the entrance to get a quick overview of the stories of Emperor Gojong and Emperor Sunjong, as well as the background of Hongyureung. Children will enjoy the visit much more.
- Rather than simply walking around and looking at the site, joining the regular cultural heritage interpretation service offered at scheduled times with your child can make it much easier to understand the unique structure of the royal tombs and their hidden historical stories.
- The grounds are larger and longer than you might expect, so children will be doing plenty of walking. Comfortable cushioned sneakers are highly recommended to prevent sore feet along the way.
- In spring, the fresh spring flowers and lush scenery are beautiful, while autumn offers a spectacular autumn foliage walking course filled with brilliant red and yellow leaves.
- After touring Hongyureung, combine your visit with the traditional house, Namyangju Gungjip, a short drive away for a perfect day trip.
